Dengue cases increase by nearly 79% in the Dominican Republic during 2026

Dengue cases in the Dominican Republic recorded an increase of approximately 79% during 2026, rising from 265 confirmed infections in the same period of 2025 to 474 this year, according to the most recent epidemiological bulletin from the Ministry of Public Health.

The report, corresponding to epidemiological week 41, covering October 11 to 17, states that 41 cases were confirmed during those seven days, compared to the 11 reported in the same week of the previous year.

Official statistics also record one death associated with dengue so far in 2026.

Despite the year-on-year increase, health authorities maintain that the behavior of the disease remains within the expected epidemiological parameters.

Dengue cases by province

The La Altagracia province leads the demarcations with the highest number of accumulated confirmed cases, with 168 infections, followed by La Romana, with 39, and Santo Domingo, with 36.

In terms of incidence, La Altagracia also presents one of the highest indicators in the country, with a rate of 52.60 confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The figures reflect a significant concentration of infections in La Altagracia, which accounts for more than a third of the confirmed cases nationwide.

Public Health rules out epidemic

Despite the increase in dengue cases compared to 2025, the Ministry of Public Health points out that the disease remains within the so-called success zone of the endemic corridor.

This means that current records are below the safety threshold established based on historical dengue behavior between 2019 and 2025.

According to health authorities, the epidemiological situation remains stable and shows no evidence of an epidemic increase.

Dengue is an endemic disease in the Dominican Republic, so its behavior remains under epidemiological surveillance throughout the year.
