Santo Domingo.– The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) reported that the total number of marijuana plants seized during an air and land operation carried out in a rural area of the San José de Ocoa province rose to 3,533, considered one of the largest interventions against the cultivation of that drug in the country.
According to the results of the analysis conducted by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), the seized plants, along with several large jugs containing the vegetable matter, reached a total weight of 3,200 pounds.
The authorities explained that the figure updates the preliminary report offered after the operation, when it was reported that more than 3,000 marijuana plants were found on a farm located in the municipal district of El Pinar.

The intervention was carried out by DNCD agents and members of the Public Ministry, with support from the Dominican Republic Air Force and state intelligence agencies, following investigative work that allowed for the identification of the plantation.
During the operation, equipment, tools, and clothing allegedly used for the cultivation, processing, packaging, and distribution of the substance were also seized.
There are several people detained in the case, while the Public Ministry and the DNCD continue to expand investigations to determine the possible participation of others involved in the illicit operation.
The DNCD highlighted that, due to the volume of the seized drugs and the extent of the intervened plantation, this action constitutes one of the most significant blows dealt to networks dedicated to marijuana cultivation in Dominican territory.
