Santo Domingo. Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in coordination with the Public Ministry and other security agencies, seized 25 packages of alleged marijuana during an inspection operation carried out at the Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA).
The substance was found inside a suitcase that arrived on a flight from New York, United States. The inspection was carried out with the support of military personnel and canine units, which detected the luggage in one of the terminal’s arrival areas.
After exhausting the corresponding protocol, the authorities opened the suitcase and located the 25 packages of the vegetable, wrapped in black and transparent ziploc-type plastic bags. Preliminarily, the shipment was estimated at about 27 pounds.

The DNCD reported that, together with the Public Ministry, it maintains an open investigation to identify, locate, and bring to justice the passenger linked to the luggage, who has already been identified by the intelligence agencies stationed at the airport.

The anti-drug agency noted that these actions are part of the ongoing operations it carries out to combat drug trafficking and other illicit activities at airports, ports, border crossings, and other strategic points in the country.
