SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Republic national team suffered a narrow 82-81 defeat against the United States this Friday night, in an exciting game corresponding to the Third Window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers, held at a packed Arena BanReservas Profesor Virgilio Travieso Soto.

The Dominican team was close to securing the victory, but a three-pointer by Torrey Craig with 16.5 seconds left to play changed the course of the game. At that moment, the Dominicans were leading 81-79, but the American’s shot made the score 82-81, a result that held until the end.

Despite the setback, both teams secured their advancement to the next phase of the qualifiers. The United States finished as the leader of Group A with a 4-1 record, while the Dominican Republic finished in second place with a 3-2 mark.

The best player for the Dominican team was Andrés Feliz, who delivered an outstanding performance with 24 points, six rebounds, and six assists, including nine points in the final four minutes of the game to keep his team alive.

Chris Duarte added 17 points and seven rebounds, Jean Montero contributed nine points, Joel Soriano finished with eight points and eight rebounds, while Jassel Pérez contributed seven units.

For the United States, Mike James led the offense with 15 points. Also standing out were Terry Taylor, with 14 points and six rebounds; Gabe York, with 13; Torrey Craig, author of 12 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to the decisive basket; James Huff, with 12 units, and Orlando Robinson II, with 10.

Dominican Republic dominated the first half

The Dominican squad went into halftime with a 46-40 lead after winning the first quarter 24-15, although they lost the second period 25-22.
