Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader informed that the country consolidated its regional leadership in the export of medical devices, as a strategic step towards sectors with higher added value, with a view to integrating into the global supply chains of advanced technologies. He highlighted that the Government is firmly advancing in a strategy of productive diversification and nearshoring, with the aim of positioning the Dominican Republic in the high-tech industry, specifically in the manufacturing of semiconductors. To ensure competitiveness in this global market, the Head of State emphasized the advances in the training of specialized talent, a fundamental pillar for the development of the semiconductor industry. In that context, he highlighted the strategic alliances signed with Purdue University, aimed at strengthening technical and scientific training in areas related to engineering and microelectronics.

Likewise, he reported on the creation of new academic programs at the Instituto Técnico Superior Comunitario (ITSC), as well as the curricular strengthening at the Instituto Tecnológico de las Américas (ITLA) and at the Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional (Infotep), in order to adapt the training offer to the demands of the technology industry.

Territorial development and equity

President Abinader emphasized that industrial expansion will not be limited to traditional urban centers. He explained that the state strategy contemplates the strengthening of productive poles in historically lagging provinces, promoting a more balanced territorial development. He indicated that this vision seeks to bring opportunities for integral growth to the entire country, while connecting the Dominican Republic with global value chains in advanced technology industries. With this initiative, the Government reaffirms its commitment to a more diversified, innovative and competitive economy, capable of generating quality jobs and consolidating the country as a strategic destination for investment in high-tech sectors. These statements were offered by the Head of State within the framework of the commemoration of the 182nd anniversary of National Independence, during his intervention before the National Congress, a scenario in which he presented his management reports.
