Santo Domingo.– A court sentenced a man to two years in prison after he was found guilty of hitting an agent of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett), after ignoring a red traffic light and subsequently fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred on August 24, 2025, in Ensanche Luperón, National District.
The sentence was handed down by the Eighth Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the National District against Otilio Piña De La Cruz, who must also pay RD$1 million to the victim, Ariel Mueses José.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of the vehicle used in the incident in favor of the Dominican State.
During the trial, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, represented by litigating prosecutor Carlenny Camilo, presented testimonial, documentary, expert, illustrative, and audiovisual evidence with which it supported the criminal liability of the accused and the legal classification of attempted homicide.

According to the investigation conducted by the District National prosecutor, Esther Sánchez, Piña De La Cruz was traveling through Ensanche Luperón when he ignored the red traffic light signal.

According to the file, a Digesett agent signaled him to stop. The driver slowed down, but subsequently accelerated intentionally and struck the agent, then fled the scene.
Piña De La Cruz was convicted of violating articles 2, 295, and 304, paragraph II, of the Dominican Penal Code, as well as several provisions of Law no. 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit, and Road Safety.

The sentence must be served at the Najayo Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in San Cristóbal, by order of judge Diana Moreno.
