Santiago.- Three young men, accused of their alleged participation in the violent incident in which agents of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) were injured with a scalpel during a fiscalization for improper parking in the vicinity of the Cibao International Airport, were handed over to the National Police this Wednesday afternoon.
The detainees were identified as Franmy Gutiérrez Feliz, Darleny Lisbet Rodríguez Rodríguez, and Joss Antonio Gutiérrez Feliz, who presented themselves to the authorities through their legal representatives, after arrest warrants were issued against them for their alleged involvement in the event.
According to the official report, after their delivery, the three were executed the judicial orders and were subsequently brought before the office of General Jesús Rafael Tejada Tejada, Regional Director Cibao Central of the National Police, who assured that during the
process their rights will be respected in accordance with due process.
Subsequently, those involved were sent to the Homicide Department, where investigations continue, before being placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes.
Wounded Lieutenant Remains Under Observation
In the midst of the process, authorities confirmed that one of the two injured agents continues to receive medical attention. This is Lieutenant Lowis Blanco Then Pan, who suffered injuries to the face, neck, and back, allegedly caused by a scalpel during the altercation.
The other injured uniformed officer is Corporal Alexander Staling de los Santos, according to the legal consultant of Digesett, Valentín Oviedo.
This is how the confrontation originated
According to the official version offered by Digesett, the conflict began when one of the agents tried to inspect the occupants of a vehicle that was improperly parked near the airport terminal and requested the corresponding documentation.
It was at that moment, always according to the authorities, when the situation escalated from a simple inspection to a physical assault. The woman involved would have attacked one of the agents with a scalpel, causing visible injuries to his face, neck, and back.
In the midst of the struggle, the agent reacted and, according to the report, struck him in the face with the handle of his regulation weapon, which further intensified the confrontation.
Men intervened with blows
Tension escalated when several men accompanying the woman intervened in the incident, physically confronting both Digesett agents and airport security members, who were trying to control the disturbance.
The incident, which occurred on the afternoon of last Tuesday, March 10, caused a great stir because it took place in one of the main air terminals in the North region and in front of multiple witnesses.
Video on social media sparked even more attention
Prior to the confrontation, the woman had spread a video on her social media in which she is seen hurling insults at the officers who ticketed her, material that subsequently began to circulate widely on digital platforms.
Also, videos recorded by witnesses with cell phones captured part of the brawl and went viral on social media, provoking divided reactions among users regarding the actions of those involved.
So far, the authorities have not offered further details on the course of the investigation, while it is expected that in the coming hours the Public Ministry will know measures against those involved in this case that has generated widespread attention in Santiago.
