Quito.- The Ecuadorian Police seized 1.7 tons of cocaine hidden in a fruit container destined for Denmark and arrested four people in an operation carried out in the municipality of Pasaje, in the coastal province of El Oro, in the south of the country.
This was confirmed this Saturday by the Minister of the Interior, John Reimberg, who also indicated that the drugs were seized during an operation in which agents intercepted a truck transporting a contaminated container from Guayaquil to Puerto Bolívar, in the city of Machala, from where it was to be shipped to Denmark.
After moving the vehicle to the port for an inspection, the police found 1,800 blocks of cocaine, equivalent to 1.7 tons.

According to the Police, the shipment represents about 17.9 million doses and would have an approximate value of 54 million dollars in the domestic market.
During the operation, Luis Andrés Villacís Espinoza, José Manuel Arias Briones, José Gustavo Lemos Castillo, and Dilson Ángelo Sosa Ortega were arrested, allegedly linked to the transport of the drugs.
The authorities also seized three vehicles and six cell phones as part of the evidence in the case.
