The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, reported that the country’s electrical service will experience a significant improvement starting Sunday, thanks to the reincorporation to the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI) of generating plants that, together, will contribute 525 megawatts to the installed capacity.
Santos explained that the recent power cuts have been caused, mainly, by two factors: the extraordinary increase in demand, due to the high temperatures recorded in the national territory and the recent shutdown of several generation plants for technical reasons.
Among the units that have been affected is Punta Catalina 2, with a capacity of 360 megawatts, which is scheduled to be reintegrated between the early hours of this Saturday and Sunday. Likewise, Los Mina V, with 120 megawatts, which was reincorporated into the SENI at noon this Friday, while the SIBA plant temporarily reduced 45 megawatts due to the process of closing its current cycle to move to a combined cycle, reintegrating that capacity during this Friday.
“Between today and Sunday we will recover a total of 525 megawatts, which will allow us to reduce interruptions and stabilize the energy supply to the population, putting us in a better position to combat the high temperatures that affect, not only the country, but the rest of the world,” the minister assured.
In addition, Santos announced that in the next six months the country will have a new generation that will reinforce the stability of SENI. In October, the Energas 4 plants, with 130 megawatts, and the expansion of SIBA, with an additional 68 megawatts, will come into service.

He assured that the Energía 2000 plant, which will provide 414 megawatts, is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026, for a total of 612 megawatts of new installed capacity.
