“Exceptional medical case: young woman gives birth to twins from different fathers”

Lisbon, Portugal. A 19-year-old woman, born in Brazil and residing in Portugal, was the subject of an unusual medical case after giving birth to twins who have different biological fathers, an extremely rare condition known as heteropaternal superfecundation.

The case came to light after a DNA test was performed to confirm the paternity of the babies. The results revealed that each of the twins was conceived by a different man, despite having been gestated during the same pregnancy.

Specialists explain that this phenomenon occurs when a woman releases two eggs during the same menstrual cycle and these are fertilized by sperm from different men during sexual intercourse held within a short period of time.
