Mexico — Federal authorities and security analysts have begun to profile potential candidates to assume the leadership of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) after the death of its top leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”.
According to intelligence reports and specialized sources, there is no single and clear successor; instead, at least “five key figures within the criminal structure” have emerged as potential candidates to command the criminal organization with the greatest presence in several regions of the country.
Among the names that stand out most is
Juan Carlos Valencia González, alias
“El 03”, considered one of the closest operators to the now deceased leader. Valencia González has been identified by authorities as a fundamental piece in the operational structure of the CJNG, particularly within its armed wing known as Grupo Élite.
Another relevant profile is Hugo Gonzalo Mendoza Gaytán, known as “El Sapo”, who, according to official sources, maintains close ties with several operators and family members of the cartel, which would grant him influence within the internal circles of power.
Also mentioned as strategic figures are
Audias Flores Silva (“El Jardinero”),
Ricardo Ruiz Velasco (“El Doble R”) and
Heraclio Guerrero Martínez (“El Tío Lako”), all with important operational roles in different regions under the influence of the CJNG.
Security specialists warn that the absence of a clearly established successor could trigger
internal fights for control of routes, territories, and resources, raising the risk of violent clashes between related groups or factions that emerge within the same cartel.
Security authorities have reinforced surveillance in areas considered high-risk and continue to closely monitor how this transition unfolds within the criminal group, amid an escalation of violence following the fall of “El Mencho”.
This command reconfiguration process becomes a key factor in evaluating the evolution of drug-related violence in Mexico over the coming weeks.
