Montecristi. The Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA) delivered a solar energy system to the Dairy Collection Center in the community of Carbonera, in Montecristi, an initiative that will allow for a significant reduction in operating costs for producers in the area.
The project was executed in coordination with the Livestock Improvement Program (Promegan), of the General Directorate of Livestock, and the National Council for the Regulation and Promotion of the Dairy Industry (Conaleche), as part of the actions to promote the use of renewable energy in the agricultural sector.
According to Bauta Cruz, secretary of the Carbonera Cattlemen’s Association, the installation of solar panels allowed for a reduction in the collection center’s monthly electricity bill, which went from around RD$60,000 to RD$168.
“This represents a great relief for producers. It is a change we never imagined and one that will allow us to continue growing, as the savings translate into greater profit for those who produce milk and their families,” he expressed.
The director of FEDA, Hecmilio Galván, explained that the initiative is part of the National Program for the Transformation of the Agricultural Sector’s Energy Matrix, promoted by the Government, with the purpose of reducing production costs, promoting the use of clean energy, and strengthening the profitability of livestock farms.

Galván highlighted that, as a result of this program, more than 40 dairy producer associations currently have solar energy systems installed, which has contributed to improving the sector’s competitiveness.
The official added that these types of projects also favor environmental protection by promoting renewable energy sources, in line with national sustainable development policies.
