Santiago de los Caballeros.– The Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (Fedodim) announced this Monday the official list of nominees for the 11th edition of the Juan Pablo Duarte Awards, a recognition that distinguishes local governments with the best results in transparency, public management, and the implementation of municipal best practices.
The ceremony, which for the first time will be hosted in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, will be held on July 16th at the University Theater of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), as part of the commemorative activities for the 530th anniversary of the founding of the First Santiago of America.
The announcement was made during a press conference led by the president of Fedodim, Lioncito José, together with the entity’s executive director, Pedro Richardson, who highlighted that these awards seek to encourage a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly municipal administration.

During the meeting, the details of the gala’s artistic production were also presented, which will be coordinated by Camilo Then. The activity will combine musical performances and elements alluding to national identity to recognize the work of the municipalities and municipal districts that have stood out for their development initiatives.

In the Transparency category, the municipalities of Altamira, Santiago, San Cristóbal, Tenares, Baní, Moca, Villa González, and Bánica were nominated. Meanwhile, in Gender Policy, Las Matas de Farfán, Oviedo, Cambita Garabito, the National District, Laguna Salada, San Juan de la Maguana, Las Yayas de Viajama, and San Francisco de Macorís will compete.
For Cultural and Sports Development, the following were selected: Santo Domingo Este, Luperón, Jarabacoa, Santiago, Villa González, Villa Bisonó (Navarrete), La Vega, and Guayubín. Meanwhile, the Solid Waste Management and Environmental Protection category includes Altamira, Bánica, Jamao al Norte, National District, Licey al Medio, Moca, Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Este, San Francisco de Macorís, and Villa González.
Likewise, in Municipal Participatory Budgeting, Altamira, Baní, Bánica, Santiago, Tamboril, Luperón, Bonao, Guayubín, and Villa González were nominated.

In the municipal districts category, the nominations cover the same five categories. For Transparency, La Victoria, La Caleta, Pantoja, Canca La Reina, Juan López, Jorgillo, and Pedro Corto are listed. For Gender Policy, La Victoria, La Caleta, Palmarejo de Villa Linda, Verón-Punta Cana, La Otra Banda, and Santa Lucía were selected.
In Cultural and Sports Development, Verón-Punta Cana, La Otra Banda, La Guáyiga, Guatapanal, Cruce de Guayacanes, Juancho, Juan López, Jorgillo, Pedro Corto, Las Palomas, and La Caleta appear. In Solid Waste Management and Environmental Protection, Hato Viejo, Palmarejo de Villa Linda, Centro Boyá, La Caleta, La Otra Banda, Juancho, Estero Hondo, La Canela, Jorgillo, and Las Palomas will compete.
For its part, Juan Rodríguez, Palmarejo de Villa Linda, Verón-Punta Cana, La Canela, La Caya, Canca La Reina, Jumá Bejucal, and La Gina were nominated for the Municipal Participatory Budget.
The gala will be hosted by communicator Nelfa Núñez and will feature artistic performances by Krisspy, who will pay tribute to a prominent Dominican artist who recently passed away. Typical merengue artist Raquel, Robert Liriano, Yeke Lee, and Grupo El Norte will also perform, while various personalities from Santiago will participate in the presentation of the awards.
The event will be broadcast live on VTV channel 32, Megavisión channel 2, and Tele Unión channel 12.
With this award, Fedodim seeks to recognize initiatives that strengthen municipal management, transparency, citizen participation, environmental protection, cultural development, and gender equality, promoting a more efficient public administration oriented toward the well-being of communities.
