Five men arrested for alleged animal abuse case in Sabana Perdida

Santo Domingo Norte.– The National Police reported that it arrested and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry five men accused of their alleged participation in an act of cruelty against a cat, which occurred in the community of Majagual, in Sabana Perdida. According to the preliminary report, those involved would have sprayed the animal with a flammable liquid and then set it on fire, causing serious burns. The event was captured in a video that was spread on social media, which allowed the authorities to identify and locate the alleged perpetrators. The detainees were identified as Ángel Marte, known as “Caco de Loca“; Óscar Manuel Vargas; Daniel Guzmán Silva; Justin Emmanuel Hernández and Obie Jiménez Zabala. Authorities indicated that the accused will be brought to justice for alleged violation of Law 248-12 on Animal Protection and Responsible Ownership.

In the operation, representatives from the Public Ministry, agents from the Preventive Police and Investigation, as well as members of the Animal Protection and Environment Department participated. The institution reiterated its rejection of any manifestation of animal abuse and assured that it will continue to act firmly against this type of crime, in compliance with current regulations.
