Dajabón.– The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) received the former facilities of the Ramón Matías Mella Provincial Hospital, a property that will be converted into the new headquarters of the UASD-Dajabón Subcenter, as part of the state academy’s expansion process in the border region.
The delivery of the building was arranged by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, with the purpose of strengthening access to public higher education and expanding professional training opportunities for the youth of Dajabón and nearby communities.
The rector of the UASD, Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, thanked the president for the transfer of the property and described the decision as a decisive step to consolidate the university’s presence in the province.
He explained that the institution will undertake the remodeling of the building to provide it with the necessary conditions to offer academic and administrative services in a modern and functional space.
“This work represents an investment in the future of the youth of the border region. With it, we are bringing the university closer to those who for years have had to travel to other provinces to pursue a degree,” stated the rector.

Beltrán Crisóstomo maintained that the authorization of the sub-center will allow for the expansion of UASD’s coverage in the Northwest Line, facilitate access to university studies, and contribute to the social, economic, and productive development of the province.
The opening of these facilities is part of the expansion strategy driven by the university administration led by Master Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, aimed at ensuring that more Dominicans can access quality higher education, regardless of their place of residence.
