Santo Domingo Oeste.– The mayor of Santo Domingo Oeste, Francisco Peña, asked the police authorities to act firmly against people who are caught throwing garbage on the public roads of the municipality, during a meeting held with representatives of the National Police and leaders of Fenamoto.
In that sense, the municipal executive requested General Eddys Pérez Peralta, head of the Regional Directorate Z8 of the National Police, to proceed with the arrest of citizens who throw solid waste in streets, sidewalks and public spaces, as a measure to address this practice.
Peña assured that the accumulation of garbage on the streets affects urban cleanliness, contributes to the obstruction of drains and increases the risk of floods and diseases, directly impacting the quality of life of the municipality’s residents.
“Currently, the mayor’s office collects around 520 tons of solid waste daily. We have a team of men and women who get up from three to four in the morning until late at night to keep the municipality clean,” said the mayor.
During the meeting, he also urged the motorcyclists present to collaborate with the cleaning of public spaces and the areas where transport stops operate.
The mayor explained that the initiative is part of a joint plan between the Municipal Police and the National Police, aimed at strengthening surveillance, promoting citizen education, and ensuring compliance with regulations on solid waste management.
“It’s time to act firmly. We cannot allow a few to put the health of an entire municipality at risk. Cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility,” said Peña.
Likewise, he called on citizens to respect the established schedules for garbage collection and to use the appropriate spaces to deposit waste.
The Santo Domingo Oeste City Council reiterated its commitment to continue developing cleaning days and awareness campaigns, while warning that legal measures will be applied against those who violate municipal provisions.
