Paris, France.-French DJ and producer Kavinsky, one of the most representative figures of the electro scene and the movement known as French Touch, was found dead at his residence in Paris, French authorities reported this Wednesday.
The Paris Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the opening of an investigation to determine the causes of the artist’s death, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey. According to initial reports, emergency teams that arrived at the scene found no evidence that it was a death under suspicious circumstances.
According to the newspaper Le Parisien, the musician’s lifeless body was found on Tuesday night. Kavinsky would have turned 51 on July 31st.

The artist achieved international recognition thanks to “Nightcall”, a track that became a benchmark in electronic music after being part of the soundtrack for the film Drive (2011). The song regained prominence in 2024, when it was performed by Kavinsky alongside the band Phoenix and the Belgian singer Angèle during the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.

After the news broke, various figures from the cultural sphere expressed their sorrow. The French Minister of Culture, Catherine Pégard, highlighted the musician’s legacy in a message posted on the social network X.
“With the sudden passing of Kavinsky, France loses one of its most unique voices. From the movie Drive to the Paris Olympic Games, the whole world vibrated with Nightcall,” wrote the official.
Kavinsky was considered one of the most influential exponents of French electronic music of the last two decades, with a style inspired by synthwave and 80s soundtracks, leaving a significant mark on the international music scene.
