Monte Plata.– A merchant lost his life on Thursday night after being shot while driving his vehicle in the vicinity of the Sabanalarga community, in the Sabana Grande de Boyá municipality, Monte Plata province.
The victim was identified as Agapito Sánchez Leyva, known as “Miminga”, who was traveling in a white Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV when the incident occurred.
According to preliminary information, Sánchez Leyva had left his grocery store around 10:00 p.m. heading toward the Autovía del Nordeste. Minutes later, local residents heard several gunshots and, upon approaching the scene, found the vehicle crashed into a fence with the merchant inside, showing no vital signs.
Authorities are preliminarily working with the hypothesis that unknown individuals intercepted the merchant and shot him. Following the attack, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle until crashing into the wooden structure located on the side of the road.

At the scene, investigators found the SUV with the doors open and the radio on. Additionally, they observed that the victim’s pockets were turned inside out, elements that are being analyzed as part of the investigation and which point to a possible robbery.

Members of the National Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office carried out the removal of the body and initiated investigations to establish the circumstances of the crime, identify those responsible, and proceed with their capture.
The death of Sánchez Leyva has caused dismay among the residents of Sabanalarga, where he was recognized for his commercial activity.
