Frente Amplio proposes to accelerate the investigation of the SeNaSa case

Santo Domingo.- The Frente Amplio reiterated the need for immediate judicialization and exemplary sanction against those responsible for the serious acts of corruption revealed in the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa), in which authorities of the institution would have acted in complicity with private business sectors and under the possible protection of mechanisms linked to public-private partnerships. The Broad Front expressed its deep concern because, despite the time elapsed since the scandal was uncovered, there is not a single legal action to date, while measures that restrict members’ access to services continue to be applied, even though the institution receives more resources due to the increase in the per capita and other financial adjustments.

“What we see in SeNaSa is the expression of a predatory logic that strips the population of resources that should guarantee fundamental rights, to end up in the hands of mafias entrenched in the State and linked to business interests,” said the FA.

Among the fraudulent mechanisms that revolve around the complaint are: Transfer of public funds to the private sector through the “medical points”, going from paying RD$20 to public centers to paying RD$130 to the private sector, generating monthly payments that would have ranged between RD$65 and RD$104 million, payment of more than RD$4 billion for the delivery of medicines to a provider not authorized for that function, a nutrition program for older adults with an execution between RD$4 and RD$6 billion without knowing the real list of beneficiaries.

In addition, embezzlement of funds from affiliates through parallel accounting, manipulated reports and bribes to expedite payments to providers and duplication of invoices and irregular billing, mostly from private providers.

“We are facing a model that turns the State into a private estate of political and economic elites who plunder what belongs to the people,” he pointed out.

The political organization also denounced that several of the officials involved have not only not been prosecuted, but have been relocated to other positions, even outside the country, which reinforces the idea of political protection that prevents the advancement of justice.

“The Dominican people are trapped between two powers that hinder their development: a political elite that uses public goods to finance campaigns and sustain luxurious lifestyles, and an economic elite, especially financial, that benefits from the budget without contributing proportionally to the country,” stated the FA.

Finally, the Frente Amplio called on the population, community, social and progressive organizations to organize and mobilize to demand an end to these practices of looting and to conquer a government committed to transparency, justice and the well-being of the Dominican people.
