Santo Domingo.- The senator for the Puerto Plata province, Ginette Bournigal, considered that the communicator and businessman Santiago Matías should prepare himself and acquire more experience before formally venturing into politics and creating a political party, although she acknowledged that he has every right to do so in a democratic system.
“I wish you luck. But I understand that you are not prepared to form a political party. I believe that you need to toughen up, get better training, because this is not about euphoria or emotion. This is a very serious matter, and we cannot play with that. So, with all due respect, everyone has the right, but you have to toughen up, prepare yourself, and that preparation is very young, it is not acquired overnight,” expressed Bournigal.
Faced with the argument that Matías has sufficient economic resources to promote his political project, the legislator maintained that money does not guarantee electoral support.
“That is not about money. That is not about resources, nor about ‘I can get these votes’. No. People are very mistaken,” he/she stated.
Bournigal also questioned whether the number of followers Santiago Matías has on social media necessarily translates into votes, pointing out that such support must be demonstrated at the polls.

“He has to know that, he has to know that because it’s not in a poll. You have to go to an election for that. Because many people think they win and then where are the votes?”, he stated.
However, he reiterated that the communicator has the right to state their aspirations and form a political organization.
“He has the right to say whatever he wants because we are in a democracy. And he also has the right to have a political party, because others have one. Yes, so why not?”, he maintained.
