Licey al Medio, Santiago.– President Luis Abinader held a meeting this Thursday with community representatives of Licey al Medio to listen to the main needs of the demarcation and follow up on works in progress, where the executive director of the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewers (Inapa), Wellington Arnaud, informed that the sanitary sewer system and the treatment plant of the municipality have an 85% progress, with an investment that will exceed RD 2,000 million.
Arnaud affirmed that this constitutes the most important work in the history of the municipality of Licey al Medio, while recalling that it has been one of the most heartfelt demands of the population. He indicated that, although the pipe laying works generate temporary difficulties on the roads, the Government is working to expedite the processes and reduce execution times. The official reported that coordination is underway to optimize the exit of trucks and advance more rapidly in the final phase of the project, projecting its completion in approximately five or six months, while the plant would be ready for the month of July. He also assured that the Government is working to guarantee an immediate replacement of the intervened roads and that, once the works are completed, the application of a final asphalt layer will be coordinated to leave the streets in better condition than they were before.Regarding the impact of the work, Wellington Arnaud maintained that this intervention will transform the quality of life of the municipality, by pointing out that access to sanitation translates into health for the population and also increases the value of residents’ properties. “That is the commitment that the Government has made, which took care of fulfilling Licey’s main historical demand that will change the lives of all the municipalities of Licey, because when you have sanitation, you have health”.

Whereas, President Luis Abinader said he is aware that there is a water problem, however, he highlighted that the Government is investing 3.5 times more in water, in real terms, than in previous years.
The president highlighted the importance of these discussions by ensuring that they allow listening to the needs of the communities and coordinating responses together with government institutions to continue promoting solutions that contribute to improving the quality of life of the population. Also, the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, informed that the Government is working on road solutions to address historical problems of the municipality, including the situation of the Uveral road and in relation to the asphalting of streets intervened by the construction of the sanitary sewer and the treatment plant, he indicated that the institution maintains a continuous monitoring of the process and explained that patching work is currently being carried out, while the definitive asphalting will be executed as Inapa releases the intervened sections. “As Inapa releases the sections of intervened streets, we, by instructions of the President, will be coming to asphalt. But it has to be a process so that things go well.” Regarding the intervention of hospitals, the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Julio Landrón, informed about the progress in hospital intervention in the municipality, highlighting that the Monte Adentro hospital will be inaugurated in the next seven or eight days, fully equipped and ready to offer services. Likewise, he explained that the Licey al Medio hospital has an 88% progress and that, by instructions and follow-up of the Government, the Emergency area projected for July 30 will be delivered first, while the complete hospital is expected to be ready in October. Similarly, the president of the Presidential Commission for Support to Provincial Development, Ángel de la Cruz, explained that the infrastructure interventions respond to definitive solutions and not temporary ones. In the case of the sports complex of Licey al Medio, he specified that the intervention carried out at the beginning of the government was a minor adaptation during the pandemic with an investment of RD 7.5 million. In addition, he announced that next Tuesday the bidding process will be published to build a roof, completely renovate the baseball stadium with lighting, adapt children’s areas and solve the drainage problems affecting the enclosure.
