The President of Parliament and chief negotiator of the Venezuelan government, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, has assured that more than 400 political prisoners have been released, while NGOs have denied that a “significant number” of releases are taking place, pointing out that the process is marked by “delays”.
In a parliamentary session, broadcast by the ANTV Youtube channel, Rodríguez stated that “to date, more than 400 people have been released from prison” counting from an initial 160 releases last December.
Hours later, in a Telegram message, the leader specified that he was referring to releases decreed by the Maduro regime at the end of 2024, “as a gesture – he said – unilateral of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”.
According to figures provided by Rodriguez and the Venezuelan Government, 160 people were released in December 2024; 99 on Christmas 2025; 88 on New Year’s – also of 2025 – and 116 announced this Monday.
That means that since December 2024, 463 prisoners have been released, and 303 since December 2025.

The deputy assured that the releases will continue as part of a “unilateral gesture” by the government of his sister, Delcy Rodríguez, who assumed as acting president after the capture of the president, Nicolás Maduro, by the United States.
