Santo Domingo.- The spokesperson for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) deputy bloc (PLD), Gustavo Sánchez, considered that President Luis Abinader should dismiss the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, and “then talk about police reform”.
“Right now, what is necessary is to get rid of the minister, who basically can’t get anything right in her position,” stated the congressman.
Referring to the first-reading approval of the bill to reform the Organic Law of the National Police, Sánchez described the process as “very rushed” and maintained that, although the PLD favors a police reform in line with modern times, the initiative should have been the subject of a broader debate in the National Congress.

The legislator also criticized the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) majority in Congress, asserting that the ruling party approves bills without taking into account the observations of the opposition.
In that sense, he held the ruling party’s bench responsible for the disagreements that, in his view, have been generated by initiatives such as the Penal Code and other legislative pieces approved during the current legislative session.
