Santo Domingo. – Deputy Gustavo Sánchez stated this Wednesday that the activity held by a group of leaders of the Dominican Liberation Party (
PLD) to express support for Gonzalo Castillo does not contravene the electoral law, as it is, according to his explanation, a strictly internal act.
Sánchez clarified to the press that the meeting took place under the established legal parameters.
“This doesn’t violate anything. We are not talking about a candidacy. We are between walls: look up, walls; look to one side, walls; look to the other, walls. This is an internal venue. There is no music outside, there are no posters in the streets. There is only the image of Gonzalo, who is a human being,” he expressed.
The legislator assured that the organizers are convinced of fully complying with the deadlines set by the Electoral Law and by the Superior Electoral Court.
“We are totally bound by the deadlines set by the law and we comply with them. Unlike others, who disguise marches as caravans,” he said.
In that same order, Sánchez referred to the recent activity led by former President Leonel Fernández, who defined it as a demonstration of the people.
The PLD spokesperson maintained that, for residents of sectors such as Villa Consuelo and Villa Juana, the tour was clearly a caravan.
“
Regardless of what he says or what I say, let the Board resolve it. I am not a judge and I do not want to demonize what the former president does. That is the Board’s problem. But I, who was in Villa Juana, said: ‘¡Damn, what a beautiful little caravan!’”, he related.
Sánchez also confirmed that a group of leaders took advantage of the meeting to officially announce that Gonzalo Castillo has agreed to compete for the PLD presidential candidacy.
