Nagua, María Trinidad Sánchez.– A 27-year-old Haitian citizen drowned after jumping into the Nagua River while allegedly being pursued by agents of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), in an incident that occurred early this Friday in the Kilometer 3 sector of this municipality.
This is Dabinso Pie, who, according to accounts from residents, allegedly tried to avoid being detained during an immigration operation. The young man jumped into the river, where he subsequently disappeared.
His body was located this Friday afternoon by members of the Civil Defense, who participated in the search and recovery efforts.
Following the incident, community members in the area questioned the actions of the Migration agents and alleged that timely assistance was not provided to the foreigner after he entered the river.

Likewise, the residents requested that the authorities of the General Directorate of Migration conduct an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the case. Furthermore, they reported alleged excesses during some migration operations, including supposed raids and damage to homes occupied by Haitian citizens.
So far, the General Directorate of Migration has not offered an official version of what happened.
