Haitian woman detained with over RD$3.5 million pesos and other currencies in San Juan

San Juan.- A Haitian woman was arrested by members of the Dominican Republic Army when she was caught transporting a large sum of money in different types of currencies without the proper customs declaration. The detention of Maximat Milienne was carried out during a routine check at the El Portón del Llano Checkpoint, when the citizen was traveling as a passenger in a Freightliner truck, white in color, license plate L518129, driven by a Dominican citizen identified as Manuel Emilio Reyes Espejo.

At the time of inspection, RD$3,524,250.00 (three million five hundred twenty-four thousand two hundred fifty Dominican pesos), US$14,250.00 (fourteen thousand two hundred fifty US dollars) and G 231,250.00 (two hundred thirty-one thousand two hundred fifty Haitian gourdes) were found. According to her statements, the foreigner claimed she was going to the Hato Viejo market, in the Municipal District of Sabana Cruz, for the purpose of paying for merchandise. The detainee was taken with the money to the Fortaleza La Estrelleta, headquarters of the 3rd. Infantry Brigade of the ERD, for the corresponding legal purposes.
