Miches, El Seibo. In commemoration of World Environment Day, the executive director of the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), Hecmilio Galván, led a reforestation day in Bahía de la Gina, where 400 red mangrove trees were planted with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
During the activity, Galván highlighted the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and promoting concrete actions for the protection of natural resources.
“Today we are doing what must be done to celebrate World Environment Day, planting trees. In this case, 400 red mangroves that will contribute to restoring the ecosystem of the Gina Bay, in Miches, and will serve as an example to continue taking care of our environment,” he expressed.
The event was part of the seventh edition of the Ruta de la Santa Cruz de Hicayagua, an initiative that integrates activities aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector, rural entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability in the municipality of Miches.

As part of the agenda, the launch of the Miches Beach Gastronomic Festival was also held, an event aimed at promoting tourism, culture, and local production in the area.

The activities also included the implementation of the “Plant Your Backyard” program in several communities, training sessions on agroecology, the delivery of tools to farmers, and the launch of the “Mothers of the Field” program, through which laying hens were provided to strengthen the economy of rural families.
Likewise, the Emprende RD program developed agricultural entrepreneurship workshops focused on the creation and consolidation of sustainable businesses, while the “Siembra Tu Escuela” (Plant Your School) plan benefited educational centers with the delivery of seeds and tools to foster an agricultural culture among students.
During the afternoon, activities continued with tours of natural spaces such as Laguna Redonda and El Limón, new training sessions for agricultural producers, conferences on urban afforestation, and the launch of community programs in El Cedro, Arroyo Rico, and Miches.
