Hecmilio Galván: “With the FEDA we have impacted the lives of almost 2.5 million Dominicans, motivating the desire to cultivate

Santo Domingo – In the framework of the commemoration of International Forest Day on March 21st and, under the Saving the Mountains Program, the executive director of the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), Hecmilio Galván, highlighted the impact achieved by the institution in terms of promoting a culture of planting and direct support to hundreds of thousands of producers throughout the country, which includes the donation and planting of 5.2 million coconut, cocoa, coffee, fruit, and forest seedlings and tens of thousands of pounds of vegetable seeds, contributing to food security, the recovery of wasteland areas, the development of farms, green areas, the protection of hydrographic basins, and the promotion of strategic and new crops. In the First National Meeting of Cooperatives, Federations and Agricultural Associations held within the framework of the 2026 Agricultural Fair, Galván reported that as part of the efforts to promote agriculture and livestock in the country, the FEDA has formulated and executed some 149 local projects, 71 of them with physical infrastructure and some 26 national programs that impact all the mountain, plain and coastal communities of the country. We have recovered the desire and passion for planting with more than 128 thousand trained individuals and the execution of Programs such as Sow Your Town, Sow Your Yard, Sow Your School, Sowing in Freedom, Saving The Mountains, We’re in Coconut, We’re in Cocoa, etc.

He highlighted that these actions are part of a comprehensive management that has directly benefited 583,262 people and indirectly more than 2.3 million, impacting rural and urban communities throughout the national territory. “These figures reflect President Luis Abinader’s commitment to food security and the sustainable development of the Dominican countryside. Each seedling and seed planted represents life, production, and a future for our communities,” said Galvan. Among the strategic programs aimed at integral rural development are El FEDA en tu Comunidad, Ovinocaprino, Coco, Cacao, Madres del Campo, Acuícola, Apícola, Cunícola, Fairs and Festivals, Agricultural Training, RD Emprende, Saving the Mountains, Sow Your Town, Sow Your Yard, Sow Progress, Agrotourism, School Gardens, Green Livestock, Consume Our Own and Agricultural Modernization, among others. Regarding the overall impact of the 2021-2026 management, the following results are highlighted: 583,262 direct beneficiaries and more than 2.3 million indirect beneficiaries. 128,331 people trained through 3,752 training sessions. 5.2 million seedlings donated to promote reforestation and agricultural production. 3.5 million fingerlings, 731 thousand laying hens, 1,080 sheep-goats, 5,437 rabbits and 1,050 boxes of bees distributed. 101,976 agricultural tools delivered and 36 solar panel systems installed. More than 38,756 young people and 30,589 women benefited through the various programs. Galvan reported that, to date, the FEDA has executed 149 projects, with an estimated investment of 370.5 million pesos, directly impacting more than 70 thousand producers, likewise, 33 programs have been developed, with an approximate investment of 700 million pesos, directly benefiting more than 500 thousand producers and entrepreneurs throughout the national territory.

The director of FEDA reiterated that the institution will continue to implement programs that promote planting, the protection of natural resources, and the well-being of producers, especially in vulnerable areas, such as the National Program for the Promotion of Rural and Community Tourism SIEMBRA PROGRESO.
