Santo Domingo.- Sports chronicler Héctor Gómez expressed his optimism regarding the participation of the Dominican delegation in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, considering that the country has the necessary conditions to surpass the performance recorded in the last edition held in San Salvador.
Gómez highlighted that the Dominican Republic is participating in this sporting event with a delegation of 1,022 people, including 710 athletes, 379 men and 371 women, who will seek to hold the national flag high in the different disciplines.
The communicator recalled that in the San Salvador 2023 Games, the country won 111 medals, including 25 gold, 36 silver, and 50 bronze. In that sense, he stated that, being conservative, he projects that the Dominican delegation could exceed 130 medals in this edition, further boosted by the added value of competing as the host country.
Likewise, he highlighted that the Dominican athletes have had the necessary resources for their preparation and valued the conditions of the sports facilities that will be used during the competition.
“I think we can have, being conservative, more than 130 medals,” stated Gómez, who expressed confidence that the country can surpass the number of medals achieved in the last edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games.

The sports commentator also highlighted the importance of Dominican hospitality and the enthusiasm that, even before the opening ceremony, is already being felt among the attendees who have gathered to support the national athletes.
The Dominican Republic hosts these regional games for the third time, in a historic edition that brings together more than 6,000 athletes from 37 countries and territories.
