Herrera erupts in protests following death of young man during police intervention

Santo Domingo Oeste. – Residents of several sectors of Herrera staged a day of protests and tire burning this Friday night in rejection of the death of a young man during an incident in the La Cañada de Guajimía sector, an event in which a National Police officer was involved.

The protests spread through sectors such as Pintura, Buenos Aires de Herrera, La Caoba, Las Palmas, Proyecto 9, and 27 de Febrero Avenue, where community members reported that several streets remained blocked with burning tires and other objects.

Witnesses indicated that the atmosphere remains tense, while dozens of people demand justice for the young man’s death and call for a transparent investigation into what happened.

The National Police reported that the officer involved was arrested and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which assumed the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and establish the corresponding responsibilities.

In different parts of Herrera, a wide presence of police and military units was observed with the aim of preventing further unrest and restoring traffic.

The young man’s death has caused dismay among family members, friends, and residents of the Santo Domingo Oeste municipality, who assert that “Herrera is in mourning” and demand that the case does not go unpunished.
