“If you don’t do your job against drugs, we will,” Trump warns Mexico

Washington. – The President of the United States, Donald Trump, warned this Wednesday that his country could take direct actions if Mexico does not intensify its fight against drug trafficking, within the framework of a more aggressive strategy against cartels in the region.

During recent statements, Trump stated that “if Mexico doesn’t do its job (…) we will do it”, referring to the fight against drug trafficking, highlighting the operations that his administration has carried out against vessels linked to drug trafficking.

These statements are made in the context of the new US anti-drug strategy, which increases pressure on countries like Mexico and Colombia to achieve more forceful results in the fight against illicit substances, especially fentanyl and other synthetic drugs.

According to that plan, Washington considers Mexico a key point in the production and transit of drugs to US territory, which is why it proposes to reinforce bilateral cooperation, including actions in diplomatic, military and intelligence matters. Furthermore, the Trump administration has hardened its stance by classifying cartels as high-threat organizations, which opens the possibility of more severe measures, even outside their territory, within the framework of the fight against transnational organized crime.

The president’s statements come amid growing tensions between both countries on security issues, with the Mexican government defending its sovereignty against possible unilateral actions by the United States. The new US policy marks a shift towards a stricter strategy focused on verifiable results, which could redefine regional cooperation in security and the fight against drug trafficking.
