Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that this Tuesday a mostly sunny and slightly hazy environment will prevail across much of the national territory, due to low concentrations of Saharan dust and an air mass with low moisture content.
However, during the afternoon, local downpours, isolated thunderstorms, and possible wind gusts are expected in inland provinces, including Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, San José de Ocoa, and San Juan, as a result of daytime heating, wind drift, and the influence of a weak trough in the upper levels of the atmosphere.
The agency highlighted that temperatures will remain very high, with maximums between 33 °C and 35 °C in much of the country, so it recommended that the population wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and seek cool, ventilated places. Likewise, it reminded that children, the elderly, and pregnant women are the most vulnerable to high temperatures.
In Greater Santo Domingo, a mostly sunny sky is expected with slight cloud increases and the occurrence of weak and isolated showers.
For this Wednesday, Indomet forecast light to moderate showers during the early morning and early hours of the day over provinces on the Caribbean coast, such as Barahona, Azua, Peravia, and San Cristóbal, due to the passage of a tropical wave and an upper-level trough.

During the afternoon hours of Wednesday, local downpours, thunderstorms, and isolated wind gusts will be recorded in Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, and San Juan. Additionally, a slight increase in the concentration of Saharan dust is expected.
By Thursday, Saharan dust particles will increase to moderate concentrations, which, together with an anticyclonic system and low moisture content, will favor a sunnier, hotter environment with little rain. However, some showers with thunderstorms could occur over locations in the Central Mountain Range and the border area due to the effects of an upper-level trough.
