Monsignor Nouel. – Suny Florentino, responsible for the promotion of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) project of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), offered important details about the implementation of the digital system during an activity held at the Provincial Government of Monsignor Nouel.
Florentino explained that the delivery of the decoders, known as “the little boxes”, is aimed at the poor and vulnerable sectors that need the equipment for the transition from analog to digital television. In Bonao, around 20 thousand units will be distributed, including the municipal districts and villages of the province.
He also indicated that the delivery process began the previous day in the municipality of Maimón, where more than 4,000 boxes were distributed, and that it will soon continue in other communities until it covers the entire provincial territory.
The official recalled that the analog blackout is scheduled for January 13, 2026, the date on which the country will officially switch to digital transmission. He explained that, in order to continue enjoying free-to-air television, households that still have analog televisions will need to have a digital decoder or converter.
