Santo Domingo.– The president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), Guido Gómez Mazara, received a delegation of Dominican students from City University of New York (CUNY) universities in the Dominican Republic, with whom he shared an educational and cultural agenda aimed at strengthening their ties with the country, its history, and their roots.
As part of the experience, the young people visited the Telecommunications Museum of the Dominican Republic, where they gained insight into the history and evolution of telecommunications in the country. Subsequently, they toured historical sites in the Colonial Zone and the Columbus Lighthouse, where they received a lecture on colonial history and Dominican independence, given by teacher Daniel Morfa.
The delegation, led by Rosivel García, president of the Dominican Students Association of The City College of New York (CCNY), was composed of students from Hostos Community College, Hunter College, Baruch College, Lehman College, and City College. The visit took place on August 7th and 8th.
“It is important for us that young Dominicans studying abroad maintain a permanent bond with their country. This experience allows them to learn about our history, our culture, and our roots firsthand, while at the same time strengthening the connection with a nation that is also part of their identity,” stated Gómez Mazara.
The president of the Indotel Board of Directors highlighted the importance of fostering meeting spaces with new generations of Dominicans living abroad and bringing them closer to initiatives that contribute to expanding their knowledge about the Dominican Republic.

Rosivel García thanked Indotel and Gómez Mazara for making the visit possible and highlighted the opportunity it represented for the young people to learn more about their culture and their roots.

The president of the CCNY Dominican Students Association also thanked Lehman College Political Science professor, Dr. Fernando Aquino, for being part of the process and trusting in her work as leader of the delegation. García also shared photographs of a dinner with Gómez Mazara and part of the Indotel team, an experience she described as special.
Professor Fernando Aquino was invited to accompany the students, and he valued the experience as an opportunity to strengthen the young people’s ties to their roots and contribute to keeping their connection with the Dominican Republic alive.

Likewise, she highlighted the accompaniment of Hilda Robinson, mother of one of the students, who participated in the visit on behalf of the parents of the youths.
The students who participated in the experience are pursuing degrees in areas such as economics, communications, education, nursing, biology, finance, and computer information systems, among others. Some also carry out activities related to education, technology, and STEM programs.
With this initiative, Indotel strengthens its ties with the Dominican community abroad and promotes among new generations the knowledge of the history, culture, and roots of the Dominican Republic, while also incorporating knowledge of the development of telecommunications as part of this educational experience.
