So far this year, 48 women have died at the hands of their current and former partnersSanto Domingo.- The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, announced the implementation of a plan to combat femicides in conjunction with the Attorney General’s Office, due to the substantial increase that this scourge has had in recent months.
Of the registered femicides, eight would have been committed by agents of the castrense forces: four from the National Police and four from the Armed Forces, and in more than 80% of the cases the victims did not report gender violence to the authorities. In addition, of the couples or ex-partners who committed the crimes, eight committed suicide and two were executed by the community.

expresó la ministra Raful.
Also, it was announced that the Ministry of Defense created the Comprehensive Mental Health Center of the Armed Forces.
Raful specified that the accumulated homicide rate remains at 8.27 per 100,000 inhabitants, and 25 demarcations are below two digits, while nine are above.
Regarding the reports of thefts registered in the system, he indicated that this year they have registered 47,716, which indicates a reduction of 4,257 compared to 2024 when the figure reached 51,973. While in 2023 there were 58,018, so there are 10,302 fewer.
He added that the presence of the agents who monitor the streets through the new patrol model makes a comprehensive approach and are part of the efforts executed to stop violence and maintain citizen security, because the priority of the institution and the authorities involved is to save the citizenry and keep it safe.
