Washington.– Iran stated this Friday that any agreement with the United States to end the conflict in the region will depend on President Donald Trump authorizing the release of US$24 billion in frozen Iranian funds.
The condition was raised by Mohsen Rezaei, military advisor to the Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who asserted that negotiations are at a standstill and that it is up to Washington to take the next step to unblock the process.
As the official explained, Tehran is requesting that the United States initially unblock US$12 billion at the time of the signing of the agreement and another US$12 billion in a later phase, as a sign of trust between both parties.
“Negotiations are stalled and Trump must unblock the situation,” declared Rezaei, while insisting that the decision is now in the hands of the American president.

The proposal has generated reservations at the White House, where there is concern that releasing a significant portion of the funds before reaching a definitive agreement would reduce Washington’s leverage over the Islamic Republic in future negotiations.

The approach arises amidst intense diplomatic efforts to reach an understanding that allows for reducing tensions between both countries and moving towards a negotiated solution to the conflict. In recent days, both Tehran and Washington have issued contradictory messages regarding the status of the talks.
Rezaei also warned that Iran could expand the scope of the confrontation if the United States resumes military actions, noting that potential attacks could be directed against U.S. interests outside the Persian Gulf.
