“Iván Cepeda makes an urgent call for calm and serenity following tight election results”
BOGOTÁ.– Given the narrow margin recorded in the presidential runoff results, the senator and leader of the Historic Pact coalition and the Alliance for Life, Iván Cepeda, issued a public statement aimed at lowering political tensions in the country and promoting civic coexistence.
n” “nAcknowledging the climate of polarization following an electoral race characterized by high intensity in public debate, Cepeda addressed the nation to mitigate the uncertainty generated by the narrow vote margin between him and the far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella.
n” “n“We understand that given such a close result as the one presented, after a campaign that had various intense moments in public opinion, there is currently unease and an eagerness to know the final result“, stated the political leader.

n” “nFaced with this scenario of national expectation, Cepeda made a formal request for prudence directed at all political factions, regardless of their preference at the polls:
n” “n“In my capacity as a candidate for the Historic Pact and the Alliance for Life, I want to make a very cordial call for serenity, for calm, and that, if there are public expressions in favor of this or that circumstance, they be made strictly within the frameworks of tranquility and peaceful demonstration; to which, I want to make clear, we are not calling“.
n” “nThe leftist leader’s call emphasized the need for impeccable civic behavior to avoid public order disturbances. Cepeda insisted that democratic maturity must prevail both in his electoral base and in the opposition sectors.
n” “n“I call on my followers, members of the Historic Pact and the Alliance for Life to maintain exemplary behavior. But also to the other citizens, to those who voted for the other option“, he concluded.
