JetBlue will suspend direct flights between Newark and destinations in the Dominican Republic starting in July
Santo Domingo.-The American airline JetBlue Airways announced the suspension of its flights direct between Newark Airport (EWR), in New Jersey, and the Dominican destinations of Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, as part of a strategic restructuring process of its international operations.
The measure will come into effect on July 8th and responds to operational adjustments that the airline is developing with the aim of optimizing its route network and redistributing aircraft to markets with greater passenger demand.
According to the airline, the decision is part of a plan to eliminate routes considered low-performing and strengthen those with better levels of occupancy and profitability, amid a context marked by rising operating costs, international economic uncertainty, and rising fuel prices.
The suspension will affect passengers who used the direct connections from Newark to Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, two of the most frequented destinations by the Dominican diaspora and tourists traveling between the United States and the Dominican Republic.
So far, JetBlue has not reported whether the suspension will be temporary or permanent, although it assured that it will continue to evaluate the performance of its routes to respond to current conditions in the international air market.
