Judicial Power denies that the Clown Kanqui has received parole

Santiago.- The Judicial Branch clarified this Thursday, through a statement, that it is false that a free pass has been granted to Kelvin Francisco Núñez Morel, known as the Clown Kanqui, as has been circulating in some media outlets. The institution reported that Núñez Morel continues to serve the 12-year prison sentence imposed on him in June 2021 by the First Collegiate Court of Santiago, after being found guilty of the rape of a minor. Currently imprisoned at the La Isleta Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in Moca. According to the statement, the sentence imposed on the former children’s entertainer expires on April 8, 2031, the date on which he could request his definitive release.

The Judiciary maintained that, until that moment, there is no process that authorizes an early release of The Kanqui case generated a wide debate in Dominican society due to the notoriety of the defendant as a child figure. Initially, he faced accusations from three victims, although he was finally convicted for one of the cases, while the main victim was 27 years old at the time of the sentence. With this clarification, the Judiciary seeks to stop the dissemination of false information that, they claim, affects citizen confidence in the Kanqui judicial processes.
