Madrid.– Former Dominican President Leonel Fernández and former Spanish Prime Minister Felipe González agreed that the international landscape is going through a stage marked by uncertainty and geopolitical disorder, while calling for strengthened cooperation and integration among Ibero-American countries.

Both leaders participated in the dialogue “Ibero-America before the new world order”, held at the Autonomous University of Madrid and moderated by journalist and academic Juan Luis Cebrián, where they analyzed the political, economic, and democratic challenges facing the region.

During his speech, Fernández highlighted that Latin America has historically been a space of constant political transformations, largely influenced by economic factors. In that sense, he proposed the need to build a shared vision that allows Ibero-American countries to advance in a coordinated manner in strategic areas such as the economy, security, culture, and the defense of human rights.

The former Dominican president also highlighted the importance of recovering the spirit of consensus that gave rise to the Ibero-American Summits, considering that the region possesses the necessary conditions to strengthen its presence and influence on the international stage.

For his part, Felipe González stated that the current world is characterized by a high level of uncertainty and a lack of stability in international relations, a situation that, in his view, compels Ibero-American countries to strengthen mechanisms for cooperation and dialogue.

During the meeting, the participants agreed on the need to reach consensus on key issues for regional development, especially regarding security, governance, and institutional strengthening.

The activity is part of the initiatives promoted by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode), aimed at promoting strategic analysis and the exchange of ideas on the main challenges facing Ibero-America in the current international context.
