Santiago de los Caballeros.– Agents from the Property Crimes Investigation Division, assigned to the municipality of Villa González, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, arrested a man accused of faking the theft of US$33,090 from his residence.
The detainee, identified as Mauricio Batista Marte, had reported that several people broke into his home and made off with a safe containing cash and other valuables. However, investigations determined that the incident never occurred.
According to the authorities, during the interrogations Batista Marte confessed that he had invented the alleged robbery, so the participation of third parties in the case was ruled out.
As part of the investigation, the authorities recovered the US$33,090 in cash, money that was handed over voluntarily by a citizen, in addition to other items related to the investigation.

During the process, two firearms were also seized. One of them, a 9-millimeter caliber pistol, had its legal documentation and was in the possession of the detainee. The other, a .40 caliber pistol without documents, was voluntarily handed over to the Public Ministry along with the recovered money.

The defendant and the evidence remain in the custody of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will continue with the corresponding process.
