In her statement, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate recalled the difficult decades that Venezuela has gone through, marked by repression and exile:Machado stated that this history of suffering has also been a source of national unity and moral strength:“It has been many years of darkness and pain: thousands of fellow prisoners, disappeared, tortured and murdered; millions have been forced to leave their country, and millions live today in the cruelest poverty.”
Finally, the Venezuelan leader highlighted the historical ties between both countries:“This story of struggle, sacrifice, and profound learnings has united us as a nation around shared values and aspirations, preparing us for this moment. United, we are going to build a prosperous, safe, and luminous nation to which our children will return and feel proud to be Venezuelans.”
