Santo Domingo Este.-Mayor Dío Astacio kept his promise and gave a house to Mrs. Annette Alexandra Benítez, a single mother of five children and resident of the La Grúa de Mendoza sector, as part of the social initiatives promoted by the council to improve the living conditions of employees in a situation of vulnerability.

Benítez, who works in the Department of Ornamentation, Plazas, Parks and Beautification of the city council, lived in a small wooden house in precarious conditions, which did not allow him to share the same roof with his five children, due to the limited space. After learning about the municipal employee’s situation, the mayor visited the site and ordered the intervention of the housing, developing a housing model that will allow the family to be offered a safer, more functional, and dignified space. The new two-story house was built with a metal structure and aluzinc exterior cladding, with interior divisions in wood and has a living room, kitchen with cabinets, bathroom and four bedrooms, two on each level, and a front balcony, whose design includes an exterior corridor with space for a small flower garden.

Mayor Dío Astacio explained that this action is part of a program aimed at providing housing solutions to working families facing limitations in their homes. “From the mayor’s office, we are committed to supporting those who, with effort and dedication, strive every day to support their families. With this housing, we seek that Alexandra and her five children can live together in more dignified conditions,” expressed Astacio. The initiative was supported by the Social Assistance and Community Food Directorate (DASAC), represented by the deputy director Luz Estrella, who will provide part of the furniture for the new home; the Iván Ruiz Foundation; the El Show del Mediodía program and also, with the coordination of different departments of the Santo Domingo Este City Hall. With the delivery of this home, Mayor Dío Astacio fulfills his promise to provide a decent roof for Alexandra and her children, thus ratifying the commitment to continue developing social programs that contribute to improving the quality of life and well-being of citizens in vulnerable conditions.
