Governor of the Lighthouse to Columbus denounces alleged militarization of the monument by Mayor Dio Astacio

Santo Domingo.– The governor of the Columbus Lighthouse, Eliezer Nolasco, denounced this Sunday the alleged militarization of the monument, pointing to the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dio Astacio, as responsible, amid what he described as tensions due to “political differences”. Through his account on the social network X, Nolasco stated that the measure responds to a “political repression”, linked to internal disagreements within the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). “Today the Lighthouse was militarized“, he expressed, while using the hashtag #AbusoDePoder. The official also referred to previous conflicts, assuring that his political support for Carolina Mejía had generated discomfort in Astacio. In that context, he questioned pressures to align with certain political decisions.

Likewise, Nolasco compared the current situation with the management of former mayor Manuel Jiménez, highlighting that, despite having been political adversaries, they maintained a relationship of institutional respect. “He always acted like a statesman“, he indicated. In his statements, the governor also claimed to have been subjected to mistreatment for more than two years, which, he said, led him to publicly express his disagreement.
