The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, celebrated this Friday that the country is about to close the year as the second with the least unemployment in the world, with an unemployment rate of 2.7%, just behind Japan, with 2.6%.
“We close this 2025 as the second country with the least unemployment in the world. The transformation yields results,” Sheinbaum pointed out in a brief message on X, accompanied by an official comparative graphic from the Government of Mexico, which shows the unemployment rate in 14 countries.

Following Mexico, there are Germany (3.8%); Netherlands (4%); Australia (4.3%); United States (4.6%) and Ireland (4.9%).
Then come Austria (5.8%), Italy (6%), Belgium (6.4%), France (7.7%), Sweden (9.1%), Finland (10.3%) and Spain (10.5%).
The figures for Mexico, the Netherlands, Australia, the USA, Ireland, and Sweden are up to November of this year. While those for Japan, Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, France, Finland, and Spain are up to October.
In October, according to the latest bulletin released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), the unemployment rate in Mexico stood at 2.6% of the economically active population (EAP).
The unemployed population was 1.6 million people and the EAP reached 62.5 million people in the tenth month of the year, which represents a participation rate of 59.9% and an active population greater by 1.1 million than that of October 2024.
In addition, informal workers in July totaled 33.9 million, which increased the informality rate to 55.7%.
