Venezuela.- A 43-year-old citizen was rescued alive in Catia La Mar, La Guaira state (Venezuela), after remaining trapped for eight days under the rubble of a building affected by the earthquakes recorded on June 24.
The man, identified as Hernán Gil, was found in the basement of the building where he worked as a security guard, specifically in a security booth that ended up covered by tons of rubble after the structure collapsed.
The rescue was achieved amidst an operation that involved national and international teams and spanned several days of continuous work, under complex conditions due to the magnitude of the collapse.

According to reports from authorities and emergency teams, search and rescue efforts extended for more than 100 hours, with the participation of approximately one hundred rescuers from different countries.
Teams from Chile, the United States, Portugal, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and El Salvador participated in the operation, working in a coordinated manner on debris removal and the stabilization of the affected area.

Contact with Hernán Gil was achieved days before the final rescue, which allowed for guiding the efforts and maintaining constant communication with him during the process.
Emergency teams provided hydration and basic assistance while extraction efforts were underway.
According to rescue workers’ reports, the man managed to survive because the security booth he was in partially withstood the building’s collapse, creating a small space that allowed him to stay alive.

The place where he was trapped was located in the basement of a shopping center in Catia La Mar, which was severely affected by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes recorded on June 24.
