Santo Domingo Este.– With an eye on the upcoming 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, formally delivered the Handball Pavilion, located in the Parque del Este, fully renovated.
n” “nThis work is part of the macro intervention plan being executed by President Luis Abinader’s government to adapt and modernize national sports infrastructure. To date, the MIVHED has successfully completed and delivered key facilities such as the Karate, Fencing, Weightlifting, Table Tennis, and Gymnastics pavilions, the Aquatic Center, among others, consolidating the country as a high-level host for the regional event that will bring together thousands of athletes from July 24 to August 8.
n” “nMinister Ito Bisonó has reiterated that these works are part of a daily and close follow-up. “We are focused on meeting the deadlines, but above all on delivering quality facilities that are ready to receive the delegations and leave a solid foundation for Dominican sports,” the official expressed, highlighting that the design of the areas is strictly in accordance with international high-performance standards.
n” “nMeanwhile, the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, called on everyone to commit to preserving the work, “we cannot repeat the mistakes of the past nor allow this facility to return to abandonment. We must turn it into an example of organization, maintenance, and national pride, so that future generations find here a worthy space that continues to be a venue for major sporting events”.

For his part, the president of the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games, José P. Monegro, envisioned the success the event will have and asserted that the venue received will present maximum attendance capacity.

The Handball Pavilion modernization project involved an intervention of more than five thousand square meters of remodeling area, of which more than 1,200 m² correspond exclusively to the competition area, where athletes from the region will compete for medals under the strictest standards required for international competitions.

With the goal of providing the best experience for both the athletes and the fans who will gather at Parque del Este, the renovated pavilion now features stands with a capacity to accommodate 2,240 people and an exclusive VIP Area that guarantee comfort in the building.

Administrative offices, general offices, storage, cafeteria, and renovated restrooms, including restrooms for ladies, gentlemen, and accessible restrooms adapted for people with disabilities.
n” “nTo ensure the proper development of the broadcasts and the event’s logistics, the MIVHED carried out profound structural and technological interventions, such as the complete replacement of the roof covering, structural maintenance, new sanitary networks and state-of-the-art data systems, as well as modern general lighting systems for both the interior and exterior, which are crucial for the demands of high-level competition.
