In May 2026, the Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index (IMAM) stood at 62.9, an increase compared to the month of April, when it stood at 54.0. The indicator remains above the 50 threshold, corresponding to greater activity in relation to the previous month.
The IMAM is composed of five variables: sales, production, employment, inventories, and delivery times. These various variables remained above the 50-point line.
The behavior in May 2026 was as follows: sales volume stood at 68.5; production volume stood at 66.7; employment stood at 55.8; raw material inventory stood at 59.6; and supplier delivery time stood at 51.9.
The following table shows the behavior of the seasonally adjusted IMAM from May 2025 to May 2026.
It is important to specify that the IMAM is an adaptation of the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) to the reality of the Dominican manufacturing sector, constituting a quick and simple portrait of manufacturing activity for one month in relation to the previous one.
Results above the threshold of 50 indicate positive performance for the industry and increased activity compared to the previous month, whereas results below 50 indicate lower activity compared to the previous month.
About the IMAM
Due to the possibility of conducting surveys and receiving their responses quickly, this indicator allows for obtaining information on economic trends prior to the publication of official statistics and serves as a reference for economists, opinion makers, and decision-makers themselves, anticipating trends in the sector’s economic performance.
The index is constructed through monthly surveys conducted with general directors and/or purchasing managers of companies associated with the AIRD. Data is collected during the first 20 days of the following month through online surveys.
