Morocco celebrates Africa Day 2026 in the Dominican Republic with a call for continental development and cooperation

Santo Domingo.- The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Dominican Republic celebrated this May 25, for the fifth consecutive year and in collaboration with the Dominican Association of Friendship with the Kingdom of Morocco (ADAMAR), Africa Day 2026, in an event that brought together representatives from different political, economic, cultural, academic and diplomatic sectors. Civil and military authorities, deputies, senators, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of civil society, and friends of Morocco attended the activity. During his speech, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in the country, Hichame Dahane, highlighted the strategic importance of Africa in Moroccan foreign policy, in accordance with the vision of King Mohammed VI. The diplomat reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to the co-emergence and co-development of the African continent, promoting South-South cooperation initiatives focused on sustainable development, innovation, and the well-being of African populations. He also valued the theme chosen this year by the African Union: “Ensuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063“, pointing out the relevance of access to water for the food, health and climate security of the continent. Dahane also highlighted the role of sport, especially football, as a tool for integration, inclusion, and social development in Africa, recalling that Morocco organized the 2025 African Cup of Nations and will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

During the celebration, the ambassador also took the opportunity to highlight Morocco’s commitment to peace and international security, referring to the country’s election for a new term on the Peace and Security Council of the African Union. For their part, Luis González, president of ADAMAR, and Cindy Ruiz, general secretary of the organization, highlighted the importance of maintaining this celebration and recognized the permanent commitment of the Embassy of Morocco to the promotion of the bonds of friendship and cooperation between both nations.
