National Police neutralizes man who shot at a patrol in Higüey

Higüey, La Altagracia. – Agents of the Subdirección de Investigaciones Criminales (DICRIM) of the Regional Directorate La Altagracia, under the direction of Colonel Ramón Diclo Mateo, neutralized a man who opened fire on a patrol during a preventive operation in this city.

The incident occurred when the agents were about to execute an arrest warrant against Santiago Payano Paredes, alias “Gato”, 37 years old, who, upon noticing the police presence, confronted the agents by firing several shots with a firearm. In response, the police officers repelled the aggression, managing to neutralize the aggressor, who was transferred to a health center in Higüey, where he died while receiving medical attention.

The individual was found with a .38 caliber revolver, illegible serial number, with two complete cartridges and two mutilated cartridges in its cylinder. Santiago Payano Paredes was actively sought via arrest warrant and was preliminarily accused of armed robbery and aggravated robberies. The National Police reiterated its commitment to act within the framework of the law, applying the proportional use of force and respecting fundamental rights, with the aim of guaranteeing peace, security and tranquility for the citizens of the province of La Altagracia.
